This was a fab weekend. We had a social on Friday night when we had a Chinese meal and watched Furious Love - quite an amazing film about the power of the love of God. We all had a great time and I know a number of us found the film incredibly moving. It certainly spurred me on, ready for Sunday morning at the racecourse.
Sunday morning was a little bit different. We did the praying, relationship-building, and treasure hunting that we were there for, but we also had the joy of a choir singing carols. The choir were mainly people from Trinity with no previous experience of Healing on the Streets or at the Racecourse, so I hope they got a taste of what we do up there. Certainly it was smiley faces all round. A dear stallholder made us toffee apples for afterwards to go with our very welcome mince pies and hot drinks. We hope we were able to bless the guy selling hot drinks too.
The choir drew people to stop and listen. As they heard the words of the carols, I'm sure many were reminded of times in the past when they sang them and I pray the words will have made them think of their own relationship with God at Christmastime.
We prayed with a few people. A guy came for prayer for his sister in Ireland who has Alzheimers. He was visibly touched, enjoyed the singing, and took a ticket for a carol service. Praise God.
A Muslim guy came and spoke to Chris. He has seen us before and has had amazing God encounters which he wants to discuss further.
We prayed for a lovely Trinity lady's throat before she sang with the choir. She sang very well.
Finally, we prayed with a guy with heart and lung problems. Alan said the man was visibly moved by the prayer and interaction.
During the course of the morning, we had lots of amazing conversations with people, but they didn't always want prayer. We look forward to the Lord softening the hearts of people at the racecourse to go beyond just talking about Him and onto embarking upon relationships with Him.
Bless you for what you do.
Alison
